Jasmine tea is a green-tea base that has taken on jasmine blossom over repeated scenting nights. The number of scentings (often three, five, or seven) is the grade language: more nights usually means a deeper floral that lasts more infusions — and a higher cost, because flowers are seasonal and labour is not optional.
The bloom window is short. Flowers picked at the right hour scent; flowers that are late or stored wrong smell of perfume or hay. The tea base matters as much as the flower: a coarse base cannot hold a fine scenting, and a fine base wasted on one lazy night is still a poor jasmine tea.
Pearls are a shape — leaf rolled so the scent sits in a tight ball — not a brand. Loose scented leaf is the other common form. Evaluation samples are free of charge; the buyer covers the courier cost. Most teas from 5 kg.
How to read scenting grades
Producers count nights of fresh flowers. The count is a brief, not a flavour guarantee — you still taste for clean blossom versus detergent-sweet.

Typical origins
Fujian (jasmine + tea base)
The usual pairing: local or nearby green bases scented with Fujian jasmine in season. Ask which garden the base came from — “jasmine tea” is not one origin.
Guangxi jasmine gardens
A major flower source. Flower origin and tea-base origin can differ; both belong on a serious spec sheet.
Base gardens (green tea)
The unscented leaf may come from the same province or travel in. A weak base with a heavy perfume note is the usual industrial shortcut; we do not buy that way.

Prepare the tea base
Typically a green tea dried to a moisture that can take scent. The base grade caps how fine the jasmine tea can be.

Scenting nights
Fresh blossoms are layered with leaf, then removed. Repeat. Each night is a harvest of flowers, not a spray. This is why the bloom calendar is a buying constraint.

Final dry & optional rolling
A last dry locks food safety. Pearls are rolled before or between scentings so the shape holds. Loose leaf is the same process without that extra craft.

Frequently asked questions
Does more scenting always mean better jasmine tea?
More nights usually mean more flower and more cost. A seven-scenting lot on a coarse base still tastes coarse. Count and base have to match.
Why does jasmine tea have a short production window?
Blossoms are seasonal and must be used fresh. You cannot stockpile the flower the way you stockpile a roasted oolong. Plan orders around the bloom, not around a year-round flavour line.
Pearls or loose scented leaf?
Pearls are a rolled form that releases slowly. Loose leaf is faster to brew and often easier to cost. Neither is automatically higher grade.
